Does clothing have a gender? Are there clothes that only women or men have to wear? Even though this issue has been brought into dispute by the quest to break down gender stereotypes, teachers in numerous Spanish schools agreed to attendclasses wearing a skirt.

By doing so, they seek to promote plurality and make clear their stance against homophobia. This idea has gone viral and has created different opinions on the matter. This initiative began in 2020, after the instructor José Piñas attended the class wearing a skirt, as a response to the discrimination experienced by one of his students. He described that he also experienced attacks for having a sexual preference.

He recounted that at the time several of his teachers looked the other way, so he rules to stand up to homophobia and join in protecting the rights of his students.

"I must tell you that a few years ago when I was a student at the institution where I am now a teacher, I suffered harassment and insults because of my sexual orientation. In addition, I remember that many teachers turned a blind eye to the situation. Today I can't do it, nor do I want to, I'm with my students."

Tells one of the teachers.

And is that the student of Piñas has been expelled and had to present himself to the psychologist for having attended school wearing a skirt. Because of this, several teachers initiated this displacement under the slogan #LaRopaNoTieneTieneGénero.

Faced with the need to break with imposed stereotypes, several Spanish teachers came to offer classes in skirts. Examples are Manuel Ortega and Borja Velázquez, from Valladolid. The teachers wore skirts by way of protest against homophobic insults.

"How you dress does not define you. Everyone can dress the way they want, the clothes don't mean much more."

Told Borja Velazquez.

"I firmly believe that our profession is the first link to educate and make a change. It has always been clear to me, I try to do the best I can with it."

revealed Manuel Ortega.
