Slap a teacher, the TIKTOK CHALLENGE

The California Teachers Association (CTA) issued an advisory Tuesday on a TikTok challenge known as 'Slap a Teacher'.

Slap a teacher

The new challenge, intended for the month of October in a list of student 'challenges' circulating on the platform. Invites students to punch a teacher or staff member and then run away before they get caught.

"Slap a teacher, regardless of whether it results in injury, is assault and is completely unacceptable and illegal. Filming in a classroom or on other student property without permission is unlawful," the society stressed.

Also, educators noted that the challenge is part of the same 'devious licks' challenge. Which successfully viralized on the platform in September, in which students pilfered and vandalized student and peer property.

The Connecticut attorney general, William Tong, says TikTok's causers need to meet with lawmakers, educators and dads and "commit to reforms that will put an end to reckless content."

"The last thing that is necessary in such instants is for kids to be inundated by social media aimed at pushing anarchy, autholestations and reckless and dangerous jokes," Tong wrote in a letter to TikTok's CEO about Slap a teacher.

TikTokhas deemed this challenge "an insult to educators around the globe." The platform assured that, even though it "is not trending on TikTok, if it ever comes up, the content is going to be removed."
