This was demonstrated by a video that has gone viral on TikTok, the favorite platform of teenagers; the video, just a few seconds long, tells it all. How it's feasible to use the iPhone to spy on other students' notes and get them without writing anything down.

The 'trick' is based on one of the news of iOS 15, released last September. It's called 'Live Text', and uses machine learning to recognize writing written anywhere. As the video shows, just open the iPhone camera, take a photo and click on the button in the bottom right corner; the iPhone will automatically detect the writing and we'll be able to select it and copy it into a document or a note.

By the way, you don't even need to take the picture; the iPhone is able to identify if we are focusing on the writing, and will offer us the probability to select it directly without the need to take the picture.

Once Apple presented this functionality at WWDC 2021, it did so proudly, showing how it is feasible to use it to translate writing in languages we don't speak, exemplifying; the machine learning system is capable of recognizing an extensive variety of typefaces, including handwritten ones.

Apple possibly didn't expect this novelty to become successful because it is ideal for 'cheating' and stealing notes in class. The original video, recorded in a class in France, has gone viral, with well over 90,000 "likes" or "I'm fascinated". At the moment, there doesn't seem to be any way around this kind of act. Especially among college students who are accustomed to using laptops and other devices to take notes. Apple has not made any statements about the use of this technology for such purposes.
