NBA Team Gave SCHOLARSHIPS to STUDENTS
The Utah Jazz surprised all the young winners with video calls

An incredible surprise was given by the players of the Utah Jazz (NBA team) to some students. When they fulfilled their promise to give away college scholarships for each of the victories they achieved this season. The team ended the year with an accumulated 55 victories. This meant securing 55 scholarships for students from underrepresented communities in the state. Not only that, but the team members also surprised the winners with video calls.

It was on Wednesday when the Utah Jazz basketball team published a video on YouTube. Where they showed their players surprising the students with the prize they would receive. The winners will attend one of six schools including Southern Utah University, Utah State University, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, and Weber State University.

In an official statement, the team commented, "All scholarship awards given will cover the full cost of attendance, tuition, books, fees, accommodation, and food for each of them." They further added that "There was shock, joy, and disbelief when the Utah Jazz players called the students. It was exciting for everyone."

By the team's own comments, all the students selected as scholarship winners had financial need and 90% will be students new to the university, or as they also call, first-generation college students. Fifty-three percent of the beneficiaries are girls, while the rest are men. This was made known by the NBA team.

The Jazz Team want to help everyone in Utah

"There is a pretty glaring gap between the number of ethnically diverse students in all of Utah's high schools relative to the number of students who go on to higher education, according to the Utah System of Higher Education," the team explained. "What the Utah Jazz team did seeks to help close the existing gap, making the state a more equitable place in opportunity for all," they added.

"Many, many students applied to win the scholarship," they added. "Those who were awarded ended up being chosen by 10,000 Degrees, a nonprofit organization that has supported college admissions for low-income students for more than 40 years."
